Terry Wayne Phillips, age 78, of Waverly passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City.

He was born November 28, 1941 in Kansas City, the son of James and Pauline (Aston) Phillips, Sr.

On June 15, 1963, he and Shirley Ford were united in marriage in Kansas City. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. He was an employee of the RLDS Auditorium in Independence, MO. In 1981, he purchased Stone Arch Welding in Independence, MO and ran it with his two sons, Jeff and Steve, until he retired in 2006. His favorite things were fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, serving as deacon and priest in the RLDS Church, and mostly spending time with his family and friends. He loved opening his home for church retreats, family reunions, and holiday get-togethers. His face would light up every time he would see or talk to one of his grandkids.

Terry's heart was always open and willing to serve. If he saw a need, he would meet it whether for family, friends, or strangers. Terry was a faithful prayer warrior for all his family and friends. Terry was a simple man and even complicated at times – to sum him up, he was "simply complicated" and much loved.

Terry is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Waverly, MO; his children, Jeff (Kim) Phillips of Flemington, MO, Steve (Rhonda Bandy) Phillips of Grain Valley, MO, and Janet (Jeff) Lowe of Grain Valley, MO; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Anthony) Warren of Belton, MO, Jaimie (Joe) Boltz of Flemington, J.J. (Regina Burk) Phillips of Preston, MO, Stevie Phillips of Harrisonville, MO, Katy (Caleb) Sarnowsky of Flemington, MO, Paige Woerner of Garden City, MO, Josh (Katy) Lowe of Pittsburg, KS, Jake Lowe of Broomfield, CO, Jason Phillips of Crane, MO, Jackie Lowe of Grain Valley, MO, Stephanie (Reuben) Lopez of Fayetteville, NC, Tristen (Tia) Phillips of Clinton, MO, and Harley Phillips of Waverly, MO; his sister, Gail (Cary) Franklin of Bates City, MO; 18 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pauline Phillips, 7 siblings, 4 nephews, and 2 nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2020 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, MO. Interment will follow in the Phillips Family Cemetery near Edwards, MO. Pallbearers will be Jeff Phillips, Steve Phillips, Jeff Lowe, Al Normann, J.J. Phillips, Josh Lowe, Jason Phillips, and Jake Lowe. Cary Franklin and Tristen Phillips will be honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
