Mrs. Leone Mattes, 78 a former New Holstein resident, died Thursday morning, at Colony Oaks Care Center, Appleton, where she had been a resident for the past eight years.
The former Leone Lavey was born May 9, 1909, in Brothertown, in Calumet County, a daughter of the late John L. and Ruby (LaPrairie) Lavey. She attended Calumet County schools.
On May 10, 1941, she married Henry J. Mattes in Sheboygan. The couple lived in Sheboygan until 1958, when they moved to New Holstein. Mr. Mattes died December 15, 1979.
Survivors are a daughter adn one-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Marcia) Ostwald of Appleton; two grandsons, Scott and John Ostwald; a brother, Rowland Lavey of Brothertown; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ruggles adn Mrs. Genevieve Mattes, both of Sheboygan; and numerous nieces adn nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers.
Funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. Albert K. Borns, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ, New Holstein, officiating. Burial in the Kiel Cemetery.
