Mrs. Ruby Lavey, 84, former resident of the town of Brothertown, died early today at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital following a long illness. For the past five years she had lived with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Mattes, Kiel.
She was born in the town of Brothertown, Feb. 3, 1878, the daughter of Nelson and Cornelia LaPrairie, and was married to John Lavey of the town of Rhine, April 4, 1897, at Calumet Harbor. They operated a farm in the town of Brothertown until 1945 when they retired, but continued to live in the township. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1947. Mr. Lavey died in November, 1954. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, and a former member of the Ladies Aid Society in the Brothertown area.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Hollis (Ruth) Ruggles, Sheboygan, Mrs. Woodrow (Genevieve) Mattes, Kiel and Mrs. Henry (Leone) Mattes, New Holstein; four sons, Robert, Jericho, John, Sheboygan, and Rowland and Hugh, both of the town of Brothertown, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two sons, a sister and two brothers.
