Mrs. Iva Mead Of Baroda Dies; Rites Saturday
BARODA, Dec. 17 Mrs. Iva Mead, 65 lifelong resident of Baroda township, died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Zelma Johns of Bridgman, Mrs. Mead was the wife of W. S. Mead, who died on May 20, 1934, a former Baroda township supervisor. One of her sons, Orlando Mead, a son, Is the present supervisor from his township. Ailing for three years, Mrs. Mead suffered a heart attack last Friday in her home near Hills school in south Baroda township, and was taken the next day to the William Johns home in Bridgman. On Monday she suffered a stroke, remaining in a coma until the time of her death. The funeral will be held Saturday, at 2 p.m. in the Baroda Congregational church, where the Rev. Fred Williams will officiate. The body will remain at the William Johns home until 11 a.m. Saturday, and then it will be removed to the church. Arrangements are in charge of R. J. Kenney funeral home in Gallen. Mrs. Mead was born near the village of Baroda on Jan. 2, 1876.
Mrs. Mead was the mother of 11 children, of whom nine survive. They are Mrs. Lenna Menser of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. Zelma Johns of Bridgman; Mrs. Grace Wenger of San Diego, Calif.; Maurice Mead of Monterey, Calif.; Mrs. Lucinda Dunham of Baroda, Mrs. Athaliah Kamradt of Hollywood, south of St. Joseph; Harry Mead of Baroda; Andrew Mead of Chicago, and Supervisor Orlando Mead of Baroda township, youngest member of the family.
A daughter, Ruby, died in childhood and another daughter, Mrs. Nellie Morrison, died In 1925 at the age of 19. Mrs. Mead also leaves 20 grand children, one great-grandchild and three sisters, Mrs. Bird Landon of Decatur. Mrs. Gertie Criteer of Three Oaks and Mrs. Lettie Nelson of Mt. Tabor. Mrs. Mead was a. charter member of the Rebekah lodge and a leader in the Past Noble Grand club of that order. She belonged to the Baroda P. T. A., the missionary society of the Congregational church and was vice-president of the Berrien County Association 01 lodges..
