Obituary:
Service: Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Wendell Benford, Officiating.

Ollie Vett was born November 19, 1914 in Clarksville, Texas to Rev. Edmon and Mattie (Dixon) Lewis. She was one of ten children. She accepted Christ at a very early age and was baptized. She and her family were members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Clarksville, Texas.

On June 19, 1937, she married her beloved husband Deacon Charles A. Young. She was a devoted wife for 61 years. To this union was born twelve children. She is preceded in death by her loving husband; three sons, Joe, Jerry and David Young; one daughter, Deloris Jackson; five brothers, Sampson, Zebedee, Oscar, Jason and Gavin Lewis; four sisters, Edwina Nelson, Juanita Behn, Lucille Anderson and Bobbie Lewis.

In 1954, family moved to Albuquerque. Upon their arrival, they united with the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her death. Not only was she a faithful member of the church, but she was a loyal supporter of her pastors, the late Dr. J.S. Patton, Dr. L.E. Hightower, and her present pastor, Rev. Wendell Benford. When you use the word servant, you're talking about Ollie Vett. She served on the Deaconess board, past president of the Baptist Training Union (BTU), and a member of the Senior Missionary Union. She was always willing to help and serve wherever she was needed. She believed that "Only what you do for God would last." You never had to beg her to work on God's program. She always had a willing spirit with a positive attitude.

During her years of employment, she worked as a nurse for 35 years with Chattman Nursing Home here in Albuquerque. Within these years, she also worked at St. Joseph Hospital and the University of New Mexico Hospital. She retired at the age of 68.

She leaves to cherish her memories seven sons; Charles, wife Marty (Columbia, SC), Cleophus, wife Norma (Dallas, TX), Bobby Young, James Young, both of Albuquerque, Donald Young (Denver, CO), Eddie, wife Mary Anna, and Kelvin Young of Albuquerque; one daughter, Novella Maple of Albuquerque; a host of nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and dear friends.

Ollie Vett was truly the matriarch of her family. She was well loved by all who came in contact with her. Most importantly, she was a child of God. We can say she loved the Lord God with all her heart, mind and soul. She wanted not only her family to be saved, but everyone she had an opportunity to share Christ with, she cherished the moment. She was not one that just talked Christ, she lived it and walked it every day of her life. She taught her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren about God. For her and her house, they were going to serve the Lord.

She never stopped giving thanks to God for all He had done for her and her family. She will be missed. "Rest in the Bosom of God."

Pallbearers: Charles Young, Donald Young, Eddie Young, Cleophus Young, James Young, Bobby Young, and Kelvin Young

Honorary Pallbearers: Grandsons and Great-Grandsons
