Sampson Lewis departed this life July 17, 1982. He was born on September 11, 1904 in Clarksville, Texas, Red River County, to Rev. Edmond Lewis and Mattie Dixon Lewis.

He joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at an early age. Later, he was ordained as a Deacon and worked faithfully until moving to Oklahoma City on November 14, 1964. In Oklahoma City, he joined the Tabitha Baptist Church.

He was employed at Drexel Arms Apartments in the maintenance department until his death. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the guitar and singing.

He was united in marriage to Lorene Becknell, December 31, 1925. He was the proud father of 15 children, 10 girls and 5 boys; 14 living, 1 preceded him in death, M.C.

His survivors are his wife, Lorene Lewis of the home, children Erma Jean Jones, Bernice Bryles, Billy Joe Lewis, Dianna Harris, Oklahoma City, OK; Cleo Janet Verner, Stillwater, OK; Christine Guyton, Sampson Lee Lewis, Theodist Lewis, David Lee Lewis, Kansas City, MO; Dorothy Morgan, Clara Sue Coleman, Clementine Hayes, Clarksville, TX; Lorene P. Wilson, Los Angeles, CA; Pearline Akerson, Albuquerque, NM; four brothers, Zeb Lewis, McKinney, TX; Oscar and Gavin Lewis, both of Clarksville, TX; Jason Lewis of Stockton, CA; three sisters: Juanita Lewis Behn and Lucille Lewis Anderson, both of Fresno, CA; Ollivette Lewis Young, Albuquerque, NM; 67 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends.
