The 1880 US Census enumerated the household of 38 Y/O Samuel Ward Berry, Sr., a miller/farmer born in AL, and his 35 Y/O wife, Mary Ann (Wilson) Berry. All subsequent US Censuses (1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930) indicated he was born in Louisiana. Living in the 1880 household were their children: 11 Y/O Ada Viola Berry, 9 Y/O Edwin Walker Berry, 6 Y/O Joseph Wilson Berry and 2 Y/O Josie (Josephine) B. Berry.

The 1900 US Census of Turkeytown, Etowah Co., AL enumerated the household of 58 Y/O Samuel Ward Berry, Sr., a farmer, and his 55 Y/O wife, Mary Ann (Wilson ) Berry. Living in the household were their children: 29 Y/O Edwin Walker Berry, 26 Y/O Joseph Wilson Berry, 22 Y/O Josie (Josephine) B. Berry, 17 Y/O Bonnie E. Berry, 14 Y/O Samuel Ward Berry, Jr., and 13 Y/O Dena (Dana) B. Berry.

Edwin attended Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, AL in 1926-1929 and was a resident of Camden, AL at this time (His year book photos are available on Ancestry.com). In 1934-1935, Edwin, Jr. was a teller at the Fairfield, AL branch of the 1st National Bank of Birmingham and by 1938-1940 was the assistant branch manager with a salary of $2090 per year. This may not sound like much but this occurred during the depth of the "Great Depression". In 1957-1960, he was the Vice President/Manager of the Bessemer, AL branch of the 1st National Bank of Birmingham (AL).
