The 1880 US Census enumerated the household of 38 Y/O Samuel Ward Berry, Sr., a miller/farmer born in AL, and his 35 Y/O wife, Mary Ann (Wilson) Berry. All subsequent US Censuses (1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930) indicated he was born in Louisiana. Living in the 1880 household were their children: 11 Y/O Ada Viola Berry, 9 Y/O Edwin Walker Berry, 6 Y/O Joseph Wilson Berry and 2 Y/O Josie (Josephine) B. Berry.

The 1900 US Census of Turkeytown, Etowah Co., AL enumerated the household of 58 Y/O Samuel Ward Berry, Sr., a farmer, and his 55 Y/O wife, Mary Ann (Wilson ) Berry. Living in the household were their children: 29 Y/O Edwin Walker Berry, 26 Y/O Joseph Wilson Berry, 22 Y/O Josie (Josephine) Brindley Berry, 17 Y/O Bonnie E. Berry, 14 Y/O Samuel Ward Berry, Jr., and 13 Y/O Dena (Dana) B. Berry.

Josephine Berry married Rev. Samuel Lee Prickett, a Methodist minister with a four year college education, about 1905. Josephine was the daughter of Samuel Ward Berry, Sr.

The 1910 US Census of Bexar, Marion Co., AL enumerated the household of 36 Y/O Samuel Prickett, Sr., a clergyman born in AL, and his 32 Y/O wife, Josie (Berry) Prickett, born in AL. Also living in the household were their children: 3 Y/O Mary K. Prickett and 2 Y/O Josephine Prickett.

Rev. Samuel Lee Prickett's WWI Draft Registration Card indicates he was minister of the "Methodist Church South" in Guntersville, Marshall Co., AL on 12 Sep 1918. His wife's, Josie (Berry) Prickett, tombstone indicates she died on 09 Sep 1919.

The 20 Mar 1920 US Census of Town Creek, Lawrence Co., AL enumerated the household of 46 Y/O widower, Rev. Samuel Lee Prickett, Sr. Living in the household were his children: 13 Y/O Mary Katherine Prickett; 9 Y/O Joseph W. Prickett; 7 Y/O Dana C. Prickett; 5 Y/O Samuel L. Prickett and 3 Y/O Edith F. Prickett. Also residing in the household was 72 Y/O Mary "Mollie" Ann (Wilson) Berry, his mother-in-law. She was mother of his first wife, Josie (Berry) Prickett.
