Herman Newton Griffith, 60,
of Centerburg, OH, formerly
of Richlands, died at his
home Wednesday, March 29,
following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Russell County
the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. James Henry Griffith. He
had made his home in Centerburg
for the past 28 years and was a
carpenter by trade.
He served in the merchant
marines and the U. S. Army, a
veteran of World War II. He
was a member of the Primitive
Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by
one son, Robert Herman Griffith.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Frances Underwood Griffith; two
sons, Fred Newton Griffith of
Sparta, OH, James T. Griffith of
Marengo, OH; two sisters, Mrs.
Otis (Lucy) Nash of Richlands
and Mrs. James T. (Carleen) Raines
of Sedgewickville, MO; seven
brothers, James Don, Warren G.,
and Robert C. Griffith, all of
Castlewood, Edward A. Griffith
and Jack C. Griffith, both of
Centerburg, Walter W. Griffith
of Indianapolis, IN, Raymond H.
Griffith of Bluefield; and four
grandchildren.
A memorial service was held
Thursday night at the Snyder-
Melick Funeral Home in Centerburg.
Funeral services were conducted
Saturday at Hurst-Scott Funeral
Home with Elders Vance Jones and
Andrew McGlothlin officiating.
Interment followed in the Hankins
Cemetery. The following nephews
served as pallbearers: Robert
Griffith, Jr., Norman G. Jones,
Charles Griffith, Steve Raines,
James Gray, Ralph Griffith, Dennis
Griffith, Edward Griffith, Jr.
