James Henry Griffith, 81,
of Spence St., Bristol, Va.,
formerly of Richlands, died
Wednesday night, Sept. 24,
in a Richlands hospital
after a short illness.
Born in Honaker, he was a
son of the late Elder William
D. and Caroline Wallace
Griffith, Russell County
natives. He had been a promin-
ent merchant in the Richlands
area for several years, moving
to Bristol, Va. in 1945. He
was a member of the Primitive
Baptist Faith.
Surviving are two daughters,
Mrs. Otis Nash of Richlands,
and Mrs. James T. Raines of
Sedgewickville, Mo.; eight sons,
James Don Griffith, Robert C.
Griffith and Warren G. Griffith
of Castlewood, Va., Herman N.
Griffith of Sparta, Ohio, Edward
A. Griffith, Jack C. Griffith of
Centerburg, Ohio, Walter W.
Griffith of Indianapolis, Ind.,
and Raymond H. Griffith of Blue-
field; one sister, Mrs. Willie
Fuller of Cedar Bluff; one half-
sister, Mrs. Hugh Schershel of
Indiana; two half-brothers,
William D. Griffith of Sparta,
Ohio, and George Griffith of
Marion, Va.; 22 grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren.
His wife, Mrs. Eunice Sisk
Griffith, preceded him in death
in 1967, and one brother, M. M.
Griffith, also preceded him in
death.
Funeral services were conduct-
ed Saturday at Hurst-Scott
Funeral Chapel in Richlands
with Elders Wallace Chapman,
M. F. Cox, and Will Inman of-
ficiating. Burial followed in
Hankins Cemetery in Richlands.
Nephews and grandsons served
as pallbearers.
