Jacob was born in 1891 in Utah, to his parents Martin and Katharine (Weiss) Grimm. His parents had both immigrated to America from Germany.

Jacob married Rachel Hemsley on April 4th, 1912 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was twenty-one, she was nineteen.

When his older brother was killed in an accident in 1909, Jake and his father were the ones who went and identified that it was indeed Henry who had died. When his father was completely overcome with grief, Jacob consoled him and remained in control of the situation, while also making sure that Henry's wife, Violet (who was also Rachel's sister), was notified of Henry's passing.

Jake died in Octorber of 1971 and was buried in the Salt Lake City cemetery.
