She grew up in Salt Lake until the age of fifteen, around the time of her mother's death when she moved to Pocatello, Idaho to live with her older sister Amelia.
Mary moved back to Salt Lake City in April of 1914 after becoming engaged to Heber M. McDonald. Their wedding was set for that October, and Mary was excitedly preparing.
In September, Mary became ill with typhoid pnemonia. She was taken to the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, where her condition grew worse until she passed away in the early morning hours of September 15th, 1914. She was eighten years old.
She was buried in the Salt Lake City cemetery next to her mother, who had died three years before.
