Katherine was born in Germany in 1852. Her parents were Nikolaus and Philippina (Herweck) Weiss. She was the oldest of their six children. Katherine's mother died when she was about twelve years old.
Katherine married Martin Grimm. Their first son, Henry, was born in 1876. In 1883, the three of them moved to the United States with Martins mother and father, and eventually settled in Utah. Together they had eight more children, with four that died before reaching adulthood. Henry also died fairly young, at the age of thirty-two, after being hit by a street car.
Katherine died in September of 1911 at the Judge Mercy Hospital in Salt Lake City, after being ill for about three days. She was buried in the Salt Lake City cemetery.
