He married Katherine Weiss, and shortly after they moved to the United States, coming to live in Utah. Together they had nine children: Henry, Otto, Amelia, Martin, Jacob, Elizabeth, a stillborn son, Mary, and Lenhart. Besides the stillborn son, three other children died during childhood (Otto, Elizabeth, and Mary).
His son, Henry, also died fairly young at the age of 31, after an accident with a Sugar House car.
Katherine died in 1911.
Martin died in 1927, at the age of 60. He was buried in the Salt Lake City cemetery next to his wife and his daughter, Mary.
