Lenhart was born in 1898, the youngest child of Martin and Katharine (Weiss) Grimm.
His mother died in 1911 when he was twelve years old, and the family became just Lenhart, his 15-year-old sister Mary, and their father. All of the older children were moved out or had passed away. However, Mary died as well in 1914.
Lenhart married Irva Whitmore on August 2, 1920.
He died in September of 1972. He was buried in the Salt Lake City cemetery next to Irva and their young daughter, Irvalyn.
