Carnegie Pioneer Dies; Funeral Is Held Here Sunday
Funeral services for Jeff Anderson, retired farmer and pioneer resident of Carnegie and community, were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist church with Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Rev. Omer Delk, pastor of the New Harmony Baptist church, assisted. Interment was in the Carnegie cemetery.
Anderson died Thursday in Oklahoma City. He had been in failing health for some time.
Thomas Jefferson Anderson, son of Marcus and Sarah Anderson, was born August 1, 1875, in Cherokee County, Alabama. He was married to Goolie Mae Vaughn at Ladonia, Texas, on August 27, 1899. In 1907, the family moved to a farm north of Carnegie and later to a farm in the Union Corner community, northwest of town, where they resided until he retired from farming in 1940. They then moved to town where they lived until December, 1961, when he entered the Pioneer convalescent home in Oklahoma City.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson. Two daughters preceded him in death, Bertha in 1905, and Euncie in 1920. He had been a member of the Missionary Baptist church over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Palmer Hawkins, Oklahoma City; four sons, Glen of Oklahoma City, Joe E., Phoenix, Ariz., J.C. Mountain View, and Vernon, Oklahoma City;' one brother, Edd, Oklahoma City; five sisters, Mrs. Amanda Anthony, Guthrie, Mrs. Asilee Burge, Shawnee, Mrs. Stella Burge, Carnegie, Mrs. Nettie Pritchard, Phoenix, and Cynthia Martin, Lawton; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
