Lloyd Lincoln Bakke
Lloyd Lincoln Bakke was born in Fergus Falls, Minn., Feb. 12, 1911. He was one of nine children born to Peter A. and Serena (Kastelle) Bakke. As a young child he came to Montana with his family who homesteaded five miles south of Gildford. Lloyd attended country school near the farm. Following his education, he went to work in construction and helped in those early years in building the Fort Peck Dam. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a carpenter's mate in San Diego and Midway Island. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to Montana. He continued working in construction until 1952, when he took over the family farm near Gildford. On Oct. 19, 1954, Lloyd married Maude Evans Claire at Circle, Mont. They lived and worked on the farm until their retirement in 1973. Lloyd was injured in a car accident in 1984 and they moved to Rudyard. In 1986 he moved to the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester, and remained there until his death at the Liberty County Hospital Monday evening, Feb. 22nd. He was 77 years old.
Lloyds survivors include his wife, Maude of Rudyard; two brothers, Alf of Kelso, Wash., and James of Whitefish; two sisters, Edna Davis of Florence, Ariz., and Betty Thotus of Missoula; one step-daughter, Duane Lowenstein of Las Vegas; one uncle, Alf Bakke of Whitefish.
