Funeral services for Peter A. Bakke, 79, were conducted at Catron Chapel Thursday. Pallbearers were Mack Johnson, Alf Kastella, Donald Kastella, Norman Kastella, Orris Kastella, and Melvin Kastella. Burial was in Whitefish cemetery.
Peter Anton Bakke waas born at Fergus Falls, Minn., Aug. 8, 1876, the son of Ole and Anna Bakke. Both parents were from Norway. He was reared on a farm near Fergus Falls and attended school there. He was confirmed in the Rock Prairie Lutheran Church.
Mr. Bakke married Serena Kastella on July 11, 1906, in the Aastad Lutheran Church in Aastad, Minn. They lived there until 1911 when they moved to Gildford, where they established a homestead. He joined the South Gildford Lutheran Church in 1914 and was one of the founding members of the church.
In Oct. 1947, upon retiring from the farm, they moved to Whitefish, where they have resided since. He became a member of the American Lutheran Church in 1947. He died in Florence, Arizona, where he had been spending the winter with his daughter, Edna Davis, at Coolidge, Arizona.
Surviving him are his widow, Serena, at the family home in Whitefish; four sons, Lloyd of Gildford, Alf of Longview, Wash., Ralf of Waukegan, Ill., and James Bakke of Whitefish; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Smith of Hillsboro, Wash., Mrs. Edna Davis of Coolidge, Ariz., and Betty Bakke of Spokane; one brother, Thorvold Bakke of Fergus Falls, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Malaas of Fergus Falls, Mrs. Olene Peterson of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Laura Myott of Butte.
