Rosa Lee Freels was born the oldest child of William Maddox Freels and Emma Jane Lawler Freels on October 4, 1908 in Eurketon, Haywood County, Tennessee. She married James Henry Duncan on October 4, 1908 at Dancyville in Haywood County, Tennessee, however the license was obtained in Fayette County, Tennessee. She was the proud mother of thirteen children of whom only nine lived to adulthood, eight sons and one daughter. Rosa was a superb cook, excellent seamstress and loved to garden. OBITUARY in The States Graphic, Brownsville, December 21, 1965: Stanton - Mrs. Rosa Lee Duncan, 77 widow of James Henry Duncan, died Sunday at the Dancyville Assembly of God Church after a heart attack. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Brownsville Funeral Home. She leaves seven sons, Lawrence Duncan of Chicago, Robert Duncan and James Duncan, both of Stanton, Odell Duncan of Somerville, Johnny Duncan and Walter Duncan, both of Memphis, and T. J. Duncan of Millington; a daughter, Mrs. Percy Martin of Stanton, two brothers, Ray Freels and John Freels, both of Whiteville; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hazelwood and Mrs. Emma Phillips, both of Whiteville, (remaining torn) (Note: Other sister is Willie Martin; other survivors are 36 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jess Freels, John D. Freels, Joe Swain, Frank Hazelwood, L. S. McCool, and Bobby McCool; kd)
