Andrew J. Waltz mustered in to Co. A, 12th Wiconsin (we think volunteers) at Prescott, WI on October 26, 1861, under the command of Colonel George E. Bryant. He mustered out of that unit on January 1, 1864 in Natches. The reason given was "to reenlist as Vet". He mustered back in to the same unit on January 2, 1864 "as a veteren". He finally mustered out on July 16, 1865 in Louisville. The reason given was "clear of war".

This information was taken from an application by Andrew for admission to the Orting Soldiers Home in 1894 and was written in his own hand.

He married Emma A (Sperry) in November of 1860 in Prescott Pierce Co Wisconsin and died in Seattle Washington.
