MRS. H. SKALBERG FUNERAL WEDNESDAY
Mrs. Hannah Skalberg, 83, long time resident of the Wausa community, passes away Sunday morning, August 10th, at the Osmond hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, August 13, at the Mission Covenant Chruch, with her pastor, Edwin D. Mattson officiating.
OBITUARY:
Hannah Skalberg was born in 1869 at Swede Bend, Iowa, the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Peterson of Essex, Iowa. She spent her early childhood at Essex.
She was united in marriage to August Skalberg, February 11, 1888. The first years of their marriage, they lived at Wakefield, Nebraska, coming to Wausa in 1892. They resided on a farm southwest of Wausa for 21 years, after which they retired in Wausa.
To this union was born eleven children, two of which preceded her in death, David, who passes away December 30, 1932, and Bertha Lind, who died August 26, 1949. The husband also preceded her in death on November 21, 1937.
Mrs. Skalberg has been in failing health for the past two years. On April 22, she was taken to the hospital at Osmond, Nebraska, where she passed away Sunday morning, August 10, at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 1 day.
She was one of the charter members of the Mission Covenant Church and was active in the work of her church as long as her health permitted. A loving mother, and a courageous suffer, she will be greatly missed by her children and loved ones.
She leaves to mourn her passing four sons, Harry of Wausa, Nebraska, Roy of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Norris and Vernie of Omaha, Nebraska; five daughters, Hazel (Mrs. N. W. Johnson of Hartington, Nebraska), Mamie, (Mrs. Edward Olsen, Pasadena, California), Emma (Mrs. Harry Peterson), and Rose (Mrs. Anthon Swanson( of Wausa; and Crystal (Mrs. Elmer Holmquist) of Omaha. Also two brothers, Anthon Peterson of Turlock, California and Grover Peterson of Villisca, Iowa and a sister, Mrs. Oscar Freeman of Shenandoah, Iowa. Three brothers and three sisters precede her in death. She also leaves to mourn her passing 32 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
