James C. Fluke, 92,passed from this life on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Taylor House Hospice, in Des Moines. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. Burial will take place in the Zion Cemetery in Williamson.
James was born, the son of Loren and Carrie (Elliott) Fluke, on Jan. 21, 1913, in Lucas County. He moved to Des Moines in 1953. James was formerly employed with the Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation, as a surveyor for 32 years, until his retirement in 1974. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cribbage and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
He is survived by his two daughters, Gail Laurent of Altoona and Janet Parsons of Des Moines; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Robert Fluke of Faribault, Minn., and Loren Fluke of San Diego, Calif.; sister Kathryn Sanger of Valley Center, Calif., and nieces and nephews. James was preceded into eternal life by his wife, Thelma Marie Fluke, and one daughter, Joyce Horton.
The family greeted friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. An additional visitation was held one hour prior to the service time on Monday, at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorial contributions may be made to Taylor House Hospice.
