THELMA MARIE FLUKE
Thelma Marie Fluke was born to Jobe and Gladys Storm July 12, 1914 in Tipperary, Iowa. She died at Hospice Kavanagh House Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 at the age of 88 years.
She was the oldest of 10 children, with three sisters and six brothers. Her family was a close family and enjoyed getting together for any occasion.
Thelma was united in marriage to James Fluke March 12, 1934. Three daughters were born to this union: Joyce, Janet and Gail. James and Thelma shared 68 years together. They lived in Chariton, Osceola and Newton, before living in Des Moines for 50 years.
Throughout her life, she and James did a lot of traveling. Thelma also enjoyed her Sunday visits to her parents, brothers and sister's homes. She was a member of the Christian Church and Rebekah Lodge.
She loved to cook, and there was always enough food for company. Her chocolate cake was a prize winner with her family and grandchildren, and her pork chop gravy was out of this world. Thelma enjoyed reading to her grandchildren and spending time with them.
James and Thelma both loved to play cribbage and Thelma would have the biggest grin when she beat James. She had a love for African violets and took pride in them.
She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Thelma was preceded in death by her daughter Joyce, her parents, a brother and a sister.
She is survived by her husband James Conrad Fluke of Des Moines; two daughters, Gail Laurent of Altoona and Janet Parsons of Des Moines; two sisters, JoAnne Davidson of Chariton and Wanda Hall of Knoxville; five brothers, Caryl Storm and Floyd Storm of Chariton, Charles Storm, Lavern Storm and Ronald Storm, all of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 at Fielding Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Burns officiating. Interment was in Zion Cemetery near Williamson.
Serving as bearers were Johnny Davidson, Dale Storm, Wayne Davidson, Lloyd Storm, Bryan Storm and Phillip Storm. Honorary bearers were Larry Dachenback, Jeff Storm, Dean Hall and Loren Whitlatch.
