GILES W. ROBERTS

Giles W. Roberts, son of George and Mary E. Roberts, was born near Roseville, Warren county, Illinois, September 19, 1872, and passed away at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines on Tuesday evening, November 19, 1940, at the age of 68 years and two months.

In 1890, he came with his parents to their new home in Warren county, Iowa. He was the second child in a family of ten children, four of whom, together with his parents, preceded him in death.

On December 10, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie E. Nine. To this union were born five children, four of whom survive, one having died in infancy. His wife passed away on November 14, 1918.

On October 12, 1920, he was married to Mrs. Minnie Curtis, and she, together with his four children, Mrs. Mable Stewart and Mrs. Juanita Yocom, of Des Moines, Ivan K. Roberts, of Dubuque, and William Neeley Roberts, of Newton, survive.

He also leaves to mourn his passing one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ruth Storm, two brothers, J. A., of Des Moines, Ora, of Chariton, three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Chappell, Mrs. Laura Anderson and Mrs. Lonnie Malone, all of Chariton, several grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

After moving to Iowa, Mr. Roberts lived in both Warren and Lucas counties. Fourteen years ago he moved to the Gutshall farm between Van Meter and Booneville and he has lived in that vicinity ever since.

Many years ago he was converted and joined the United Brethren church in Chariton, Iowa. On moving to Van Meter he transferred his membership to the Van Meter United Brethren church, where he remained a faithful member up to the time of his death.

Funeral services were held on Thursday in Van Meter at 10:00 o'clock and in the United Brethren church in Chariton at 2:30, Rev. E. A. Elliott of Des Moines, officiating. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
