GEORGE EARL ROBERTS

George Earl Roberts, son of George and Mary Roberts, was born Nov. 20, 1884, near Roseville, Warren county, Illinois, and departed this life May 12, 1933, at his home on a farm near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where he had moved about six weeks previous to his death, which occurred after a short illness of only two days with pneumonia.

He was the ninth child of a family of ten children, three of whom, with his parents, preceded him in death.

He came with his parents to Warren county, Iowa, in 1890 where they resided until 1900, when they moved to a farm in Lucas county, four miles northwest of Chariton.

He was united in marriage to Lois Holmes on Dec. 22, 1908. To this union one son, Gerald, was born. They made their home in Lucas county for two years, then moved to Des Moines, Iowa, residing there until about six weeks ago, when he moved to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. His wife preceded him in death on December 17, 1914.

Of his immediate family there remains to mourn the loss of a loving father and grandfather, his son Gerald and wife, and little granddaughter, Lois, who was his especial pride and joy.

Others surviving are three brothers, Giles, of Van Meter, Iowa; Jed, of Des Moines, Iowa; Ora, of Chariton; and three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Chappell, Mrs. Laura Anderson, and Mrs. Lennie Malone, all of Chariton.

When a young man in college at Hastings, Nebraska, he was converted and united with the Church of Christ. Later, while living in Des Moines, he, with his wife, united with the Capitol Hill Church of Christ, remaining a faithful member until his death.

He had been in failing health for a number of years, having submitted to several operations, none of which gave permanent relief.

The body was brought to Chariton and on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, funeral services, conducted by Rev. R. F. Allen, were held at the Christian church, and burial took place in the Chariton cemetery by the side of his wife.
