MRS. LENNIE NINE

Mary Lenore Roberts Malone Nine was born to George and Mary Threlkeld Roberts September 18, 1882 in Illinois. She passed away January 8, 1964, at the age of 81 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she had lived the past three years.

Mrs. Malone, known to everyone as Lennie, moved to Iowa with her parents and nine brothers and sisters in 1900.

On November 22, 1902, Lennie was united in marriage to David C. Malone of Oakley, Iowa. To this union were born four children, the youngest dying in infancy. They made their home on farms in Lucas and Clarke counties until moving to Chariton in 1942, where Lennie operated a nursing home.

In 1905, both Mr. and Mrs. Malone united with the Christian Church at Oakley and in 1914, on moving to the vicinity of Last Chance, placed their membership in the Christian Church there, where they were active in the church work. Lennie was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.

Mr. Malone passed away in February of 1957 and on Dec. 24, 1957 Lennie was united in marriage to Dan Nine of Lucas. Together they operated the nursing home until 1960 when their health failed and they moved to the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bell of Chariton.

On January 10, 1961, Dan Nine passed away. She was also preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Left to mourn her passing are: one brother, Ora Roberts of Chariton; three children, Marvin, Merrill and Lola Mae Bell, all of Chariton; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Twyla Robison, Dean and Max Malone, all of Chariton, Mrs. Inez Quinn of Anchorage, Alaska, Mrs. Fern Baze of Fontanelle, Bernard Dewey of Huntsville, Ala., and Jylene Dewey of Iowa City, and five great-grandchildren.

Lennie's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy in the later years of her life. Her heart, as well as her cookie jar, was always open to them. She also leaves many other relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held Friday, January 19, at the Miley Chapel with the Rev. Eldon Jandebeur officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion cemetery.
