James Arthur (Sheriff) Adamson, 62, of Washington, formerly of the Lippencott section of Greene County, died Thursday, July 22, 1971, in Washington Hospital, where he had been a patient since Monday. He had been in failing health for several months.

Mr. Adamson was born Jan. 26, 1909, at Claylick in Center Township, Greene County. He was a son of the late J. E. and Elizabeth N. Hoge Adamson. His father was a former sheriff of Greene County.

He was employed by the Revere Gas Co., at Jefferson for several years and was a farmer and stock raiser, having had both beef and dairy herds at various times. He had served in Co. K, 110th Infantry, from 1929 to 1944 and was a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesburg.

All of his life except the past four months had been apent in Greene County. Since then he lived in Washington.

He was married in 1969 to Alice Parkes White, who survives.

He is also survived by three sisters; Miss Cecelia Adamson, of Waynesburg, R. D. 1; Mrs. Merle Kahler, of Waynesburg, and Mrs. John O. (Cindy) Stagger, of Downington; one brother, George Kenneth, of Detroit; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Albert Miller, of Avella, and four step-grandchildren and 23 nieces and nephews.
