Baptized 25 July 1875 Bow Valley Lutheran Church, sponsors: Bernhard and Andrine Olsen, Anders and Kristine Olsen.
wife of Julius Olsen, daughter of Martin and Mari (Loeng) Bottolfsen. She was known as Caroline, her birth name was KAREN OTILLIA. Caroline was well known for making the best butter, she took it to Hartington to market it at one of the grocery stores and folks would come in and specify they only wanted Caroline's butter.
A bit of family legend passed down by her daughter Helen when a young girl on the homestead farm of her parents, the indians would come by frequently and beg food. One day they came by and Caroline was the only one there and she told them she did not have any food for them. This did not make the indians happy and so they tied her to the pump, where she stayed until someone came home and untied her.
Julius and Caroline grew up near Paragon as neighbors.
Caroline was always the first to help in time of sickness and death, as was her mother. There were many times before the death of a friend or neighbor the families would ask Caroline if she would help the undertaker take care of them. She washed and dressed the babies of friends and relatives after death.
Caroline always thought of others before herself.
She had been in poor health for many years and she died of bladder cancer.
Caroline was buried August 25, 1949 in Paragon Cemetery where she lies beside her husband in the same neighborhood where they were born, grew up and worked all their lives.
