Magnus Bottolfsen was born in Alamakee Co. IA,to Martin and Mari (Loeng) Bottolfson. He was born on a farm in Paint Creek township #97. Close to Waterville, Iowa. His father had bought land from Lars Arneson and wife Ragnet on July 12, 1856. Page 496, Section 25 Twp 97 range 4 and he also bought land in Sec 12 abt 160 acers which was located abt 2 miles west of Nels Bottolfson's homestead.
Magnus came to Cedar Co. Nebraska with his parents and brothers Benjamin and Herman in a covered Wagon in the spring of 1869. Magnus lived and farmed on the homestead place all of his life. The original log home is still standing as of 2011. Magnus was always so proud of his Angus Cattle. He was written up in Stockmans magazines for his prize angus cattle.
Magnus Bottolfsen married Bertha Gearhart on July 6, 1904. He was the father of 8 children, 6 boys and 2 girls.
Magnus was of the Lutheran Faith.

Funeral services for Magnus Bottolfsen, 86, who died January 3
at the Kenneth Bottolfsen home of a heart ailment, were held Tuesday from
Trinity Lutheran church with Rev. O.L. Levorson officiating. Burial was
made at Paragon cemetery under the direction of Smith Fuenral Home.
Pallbearers were Arthur Bottolfsen, Bernard Schager, William Olson,
Arthur Swan, Sam Schager and Lester Olsen.
Magnus, son of Martin and Mary Loeng Bottolfsen, was born at Paint
Creek, Ia., December 8, 1866, and came to this community with his parents when he was 2 1/2 years old.
He was married to Bertha Gearhart July 6, 1904. Most of their life time was spent on a farm, but Mr. Bottolfsen was employed for a short time in a meat market in Hartington.
He was baptized in the Lutheran church in Iowa before coming here in
1869 and was later confirmed at the old Paragon school house by the late Rev. N.G. Tvedt.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mr. F.O. (Mary) Baird of
Manitou Springs, Colo., and Mrs. W.U. (Laura) Olsen of Eugene, Ore.; and five sons, Hugh G. of Hastings and Herbert, Kenneth, Martin and Arthur of Hartington.
One son, Nels Owen, died as a child in 1919. Magnus was the last survivor of a family of five brothers and two sisters.

over the years Magnus mentioned that the Bottolfsen's had distant relatives in Wisconsin, or Minnesota but had forgotten their names. It turned out that one of these relatives was a stepsister of Magnus' grandfather Bottolf Bottolfsen, a child of Bottolf Rasmussen, Magnus' great grandfather. There were others of Bottolf Rasmussen's children who immigrated also.
