Bow Valley Lutheran Church baptism Aug 29 1872, sponsors were Albert and Thurine Erdenberger.

Always went by and was known as Martin

Martin courted Grace in a buggy. After the marriage Feb 14, 1900 in Yankton, SD, they lived on a farm east of Hartington, NE. There was a cave on the farm. Martin was very afraid of storms and each time the weather was threatning, he would hustle the family to the cave and he would constantly go up and open the cave door to peer out and check the weather situation.
Martin and Grace had some bad financial luck and had to give up farming. In 1924 they moved to Hartington into one of 3 houses owned by Grace's parents. Later they moved to the Bowers house on the fair grounds road and this is where the children finished growing up.
Martin built a new barn on the farm not long before they moved to town. The wife and children did not see much of Martin after they moved to town.
Martin had purchased some "stock" of some kind in the early years and then much later after his death the stock that never grew financially for years, finally paid off, leaving his wife and family with inheritance long after his death.
