ALBA, Mo. … Chester Eli Black, 76, Deltona, Fla., a former mayor of Alba and past president of the Alba School Board, died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 1996, at John Knox Medical Center, Orange City, Fla., after an illness.

Mr. Black was born Oct. 29, 1919, in Cherokee County, Kanas. He was a mechanic for 26 years at Hercules Powder Co., near Carthage. He moved from Alba to DeBary, Fla., in 1974. He moved from DeBary to Deltona in 1986. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge and a patron of the Order of Eastern Star, both of Alba. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, DeBary. He was a member of the Alba Friends Church.

Surviving are his wife, Rita Black, Deltona; two sons, the Rev. Thomas Gene Black, Chrisman, Ill., and James Nathan Black, Deltona; a daughter, Melissa Sue Chambers, Ocoee, Fla.; a brother, James C. Black, Winter Haven, Fla.; two sisters, Edna Chidester, Alba, and Sylvia Wright, Carthage; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at at 10 a.m. Thursday at Deltona Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen R. Baldauff Funeral Home, Deltona.
