CARTHAGE, Mo. — Sylvia Wright, 82, of Carthage, passed away at 11:27 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri. She was born June 4, 1926, to Nathan Black and Lucy Jane "Lavrar" Black in Treece, Kan. She married Arlis Wright on Feb. 21, 1948, in Webb City, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2007. She worked at Elder Manufacturing for several years and was a member of the Homebuilder's class at the First Church of the Nazarene in Carthage.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, as well as nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Arlia Joyce, Carthage, and Brenda Davidson and husband, John, Joplin. Additional survivors include grandsons, Jason Swoveland, John Davidson II, Bryan Joyce and Edward Joyce, great-grandsons, Travis Joyce, Luke Davidson, Noah Joyce, Evan Davidson and Wyatt Joyce, as well as one great granddaughter, Catlynn Swoveland. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Carthage.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to Palliative Care at Freeman Hospital in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage, Mo.
