FORMER COUNTY COMMISSIONER DIES SUDDENLY

Once again the grim reaper has called one of our respected citizens in the person of Charles A. Johnson.
Mr Johnson passed away suddenly Saturday evening, December 26 at his home of a heart attack. He has not been feeling the best for several months, but was not considered to be in a serious condition and only Christmas eve was down town.
Charles A Johnson was born in Malmo, Sweden July 12 1865. He joined the L.D. S. church in Sweden at the age of nineteen and came to America locating at Midvale, Utah in the year 1884.
In 1887 he ws married to Anna Olsen in Salt Lake City and to this union was born twelve children, two of whom have preceded him in death.
He worked for a number of years in the smelters at Murray, but decided to change his vocation.
They moved to Star Valley in 1891 lived for a good many years in Smoot, on his ranch west of town, where he engaged in farming and stock raising and is considered the largest real estate holder in Star Valley. For the past sixteen years he has made his home in Afton.
Always civic minded he has participated in the general uplift and improvement of the community. He served Lincoln County as Commissioner for twelve years and in this capacity became very well acquainted throughout the county.
In his passing he leaves behind him remembrances of many thoughtful acts and services which he had performed for his neighbors and friends, as he was always ready and willing to help anyone in need and was a true friend to all he came in contact with.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the South Ward chapel under the direction of Bishop Edwin Allred.
The opening prayer was offered by A. V. Call and the closing prayer b y L. C. Jensen. The speakers were Bp. Osborne Low, P.P Baldwin, Pres. Clarence Gardner and Mayor L.C. Jensen. All spoke words of comfort to the bereaved and told of the fine characteristics of the deceased.
Special musical numbers were: Ladies chorus, "Sweet Hour of Prayer and "Jesus Lover of My Soul" ladies Trio "Prayer Perfect" sung by Gean Harrison, Nellie Roberts and Lucile Call. A vocal solo "Face to Face" was sung by Gean Harrison accompanied at the piano by Vatia Harrison. A beautiful vocal solo was sung by Arch Gardner, assisted on the piano by Laura Draney.
The beautiful casket was banked in flowers as was also the rostrum. They were carried by a number of his grandchildren.
His five sons and one grandson acted as pall bearers.
He is survived by his wife Anna Johnson and sons.
