A sudden heart attack took the life of Arthur W. Johnson, 65, prominent Auburn rancher at about 4:50 p.m. Monday, April 6 at the LDS Star Valley Hospital. Since Mr Johnson had apparently been in good health, his sudden passing was quite a shock to the community. He died on his 65th birthday.
Funeral services are scheduled at be held in the Auburn ward chapel at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, under the direction of the ward bishopric.
Arthur William Johnson was born at West Jordan, Utah April 6, 1888, the son of Charles A. Johnson and Annie Olsen Johnson. He came to Star Valley about 1892 and has resided here ever since. His father homesteaded the present Charles Johnson place a mile south of Afton. Arthur attended school at Osmond and Smoot and also the Fielding Academy at Paris Idaho.
On May 20, 1908 he married Mary Elizabeth Crook in the Logan LDS Temple.
Mr Johnson was active in political circles and was an unsuccessful candidate for county commissioner of Lincoln County at the election last November. He was one of the founders and was on the board of directors of what is now the Star Valley Creamery Co. at Afton. He also served as a member of the board of directors for the Lower Valley Power & Light Inc. and of the National Farm Loan Association for several years. He was chairman of the building committee for the building of the Auburn recreation hall. He has been a resident of Auburn since 1921.
Besides his wife he is survived by the following children; Francis, Temple City, Calif; Grace Toland, Norman, Orson, Ervon, all of Auburn; Elma Pico, Los Angeles, Calif; Ross, Bob Johnson of Auburn. Three children preceded him in death; Douglas, 3 (1925); Verd, 21 (19330) and Rollin 35 (1946).
Surviving brothers and sisters are: Sadie Baldwin, Salt Lake City, Orson A. Johnson, Afton; Alice Porter, Smoot Harry Johnson, Smoot; Irene Nussbaum, Montpelier; Reuben Johnson, Smoot; Elva House, Portland Oregon; and Charles H.Johnson, Afton.

LaVere Johns; Solo "Hold Thou My Hand". Nord Putnam; Tribute, Bp. Charles Moser; Original verses written by Viola Miller were read by Elona Hillyard; Closing remarks by Denzel Wood; Song, "O My Father" , choir; Benediction, Bp, Lloyd Hyde; Postlude music, "The End of a Perfect Day" Elona Hillyard organ and Eldon Hyde, violin, Prayer in the home was by Clarence Erickson and A. Francis Johnson dedicated the grave. The pallbearers were Mr Johnson's six sons: Francis, Norman, Orson, Ervon, Ross and Dale. The flowers were under the direction of the Relief Society and were carried by the grandchildren. The Elders acted as ushers and also prepared the grave. The Schwab Mortuary was in attendance.
A record attendance of about 600 people attended and there was indeed a profusion of flowers, bearing silent honor and tribute to this fine man who was a friend and neighbor to everyone. He was a community builder, a man of integrity with a charitable heart. He always contributed his share, ofttimes more, to worthy causes. He had a great love for his friends and was justly proud of his wonderful wife and fine family. He appreciated his brothers and sister, his nephews and nieces, and greatly enjoyed mingling with all his folks at family reunions. He became an idol to his grandchildren because of his affection for them and the things he delighted to do to make them happy. It is typical of this family unity, that at the time he passed away so unexpectedly, his family was planning a surprise party for him in honor of this event on his 65th birthday.
Relatives and friends from out of the valley in attendance at the funeral were: Mr and Mrs A Francis Johnson of Temple City, Calif., their daughters, Patricia and Geraldine of Provo; Mr and Mrs Tris Pico, and sons Randy and Billy of Los Angeles; Mr and Mrs George Nussbaum and daughter, Georgia of Montpelier; Mr and Mrs Roy Webster, Sandy Utah; Roy Steadman of Midvale Utah; Mr and Mrs Albert Olson and Hyrum Crook of Salmon, Idaho; mr and Mrs Alma Jensen and son Kay, Pocatello; Mrs Lydia Walker, Mrs Elese Duncan, Mrs Bessie Walters and daughter, Rayola Horn, Mr and Mrs Blaine Crook, Mr and Mrs Forrest Walton, all of Idaho Falls; Mr and Mrs Virgil Winterbottom, Paris, Ida.; Mr and Mrs Ray Hincks and Mr and Mrs Junius Taylor of Grant, Idaho; Mr and Mrs G. M. Turner of Salt Lake City; Mrs Ethel Howard and Mrs Cleone Bagley, Montpelier; Sheriff and Mrs Earl Ellsworth, Kemmerer; Mrs Verna davis, Conda Ida,; and Mr and Mrs Owen Rawlins, Lewiston, Utah.

The Relief Society served lunch to 175 members of the family and relatives after the funeral.
Mr Johnson was greatly loved; he will be greatly missed, but he will long be remembered for his services to others, for his leadership and for the many worthwhile things he has accomplished.
