Chenoa - Mrs. Elizabeth N. Elson, 82, pioneer resident of this city, died at her home at 5:30 o'clock Wednesday morning following a second stroke of paralysis. She suffered the first stroke in February 1927, and never fully recovered after that time until the second one, which proved fatal.
Elizabeth N. Storey was born in Lancashire, England, June 3, 1845, and came to the U.S. with her parents when she was six years old. The family first settled in Delaware, but shortly afterwards emigrated westward and took up a homestead in Peoria county, where they lived for many years. In 1862, while still living in Peoria co, Elizabeth Storey married William Elson and seven years later in 1869 they moved to a farm southeast of Chenoa and lived there for three years. The couple then took up their residence on the present Elson farm in Pike township. The land at that time was a prairie and for years the Elsons worked and developed it until today it is considered one of the best and most modern farms in this vicinity. In 1897 they retired and moved to this city.
Mr. Elson died in 1903. Mrs. Elson continued with her housework until her first stroke in 1897. She was a charter member of the Methodist church here and took part in all the activities of the church.
Surviving are the following children: Lorenzo, Joseph and Everett of Chenoa; Mrs. Sarah Copeland and Elliott of Waukee, Ia.; Charles of Bondurant, Ia.; Mrs. Luella Copeland of Ames, Ia., and Clarence of Los Angeles, Calif. There are also 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Methodist church. The Rev. George Davies of Dwight will officiate and burial will be in Chenoa [Pike Twp] cemetery.
