Clara appears to be the oldest of Edward and Bertha Weber's children. She traveled with the family from Germany to America in 1878. Ten years later, she married Christ Merle and they had three children, Louise, Gus and Bertha. Christ had been an officer in the Germania Court Tribe of Ben Hur and learned the woodturning trade, which led to a 20-year career at Crescent Furniture Company. He died when he was hit by a car in 1929. Clara is buired at Locust Hill Cemetery with Christ.

Aug. 16, 1952, Evansville Courier:
Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Merle, 84, who died early Friday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Louis Huck, of 28 West Maryland street, will be at 2 p.m. Monday. Rev. Roland B. Mernitz will officiate with burial in Locust Hill cemetery.

Surviving in addition to Mrs. Huck, are another daughter, Mrs. George Schmitt; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Wheeler and Mrs. H.T. Giles; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, all of Evansville.
