GEORGE MATTINGLY SUCCUMBS AT 88
George Bernard Mattingly, 88-year old retired farmer, died at 4:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 1970, at St. Joseph Infirmary, Louisville, where he had been under treatment two weeks. A native of Marion County, he was a son of the late Edward G. and Elizabeth Davis Mattingly. He made his home in St. Francis. Mr. Mattingly is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maggie Green Mattingly; two daughters, Mrs. Artie (Beatrice) Mattingly, New Hope, and Miss Cleo Mattingly, St. Francis; three sons, Thomas (Bud) and J. P. Mattingly, St. Francis, and Cleophas Mattingly of New Hope; a half-sister, Mrs. Ado Sims of Mt. Washington; three half-brothers, Herb Mattingly, St. Francis, and Joseph Eugene Mattingly, Raywick; 12 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. The body was at Mattingly Funeral Home, where the Rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Thomas P. Creagh, conducted the funeral at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl, Carl Dean, Fabian, Randall and Gerald Mattingly and Mike Hagan.
