Wilbur was born October 21, 1929, the son of Zimmer and Lucretia(Whitall)Hayes in Centerville, Iowa. Wilbur married Charlene Crain on June 24, 1950 in Centerville. Wilbur was a member of the Walnut Lodge in Mystic, Iowa for fifty years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Wilbur is survived by his wife; a daughter, Charla(Ron Gomez)Hayes of Camarillo, CA; two sisters, Olive Sleeth, Janice Hayes; a brother, Bert Hayes; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Clifford Hayes, Bueford Hayes, Wilma Shondel, Edna Pearl Wales, Wilfred Hayes, Wiley Hayes and Ronald Hayes.
A Masonic Service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, November 30, 2007 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Gene Aldrich officiating. Burial will follow at the Dale Cemetery in Centerville, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home with family present from 6-8 pm. A memorial has been established to the Walnut Masonic Lodge in Mystic or Mercy Hospice and may be left at the funeral home.
