Belle Hayes, wife of Zimmer Hayes, of 817 West Garfield, died Wednesday,
December 18, at 8:25 p.m., at the St. Joseph Hospital, following a cerebral
hemorrhage. She was 60 years 11 months, and 17 days old.
Born Lucretia Belle Whitall at Mendota, Mo., January 1, 1897, she was the
daughter of Wiley and Ida Boyd Whitall. She was married to Zimmer Hayes
September 27, 1913.
Surviving are her husband, ten children: Clifford, Buford, Wiley, and Ronald
Hayes and Mrs. Lloyd Sleeth, all of Des Moines; Mrs. Don Wales, Davenport; Bert
Hayes, Lacona, Wash.; Mrs. Albert Shoden, Wilbur Hayes, and Janice Hayes, of
Centerville; 45 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, Okie
Whitall of Centerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son,
Wilford, and a sister, Myrtle Monroe.
Mrs. Hayes was a member of the Nazarene Church.
Funeral arrangements are pending, and will be announced later from the Johnson
Funeral Home.

Hayes Rites Are Saturday
Funeral services for Belle Hayes will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the
Johnson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Swanson of the Nazarene Church
officiating. Mrs. Hayes, 817 West Garfield, died Wednesday evening at the St.
Joseph Hospital.
