Note to families of Wheeler following both lines of Wheeler:

Peter Alphins and Polly Millard Wheeler's son, William Henry Wheeler, (1825-1890), married Elizabeth Wheeler (1830-1916). This is where it can be confusing because William Henry (1825), and Elizabeth (1830) also had a son named William Henry Wheeler, (1849-1928), and also a son named Peter A. Wheeler (1845-1927).

Peter and Polly Millard Wheeler were married in 1824, Jefferson County, NY.
Peter was shown in 1840 census of Lyme, Jefferson County, NY. Canton Daily Register, pg.4 - A Rambers Notes, col. 1&2, 10 Apr 1908 - Peter and Polly came to Fulton County, IL in 1850 from Jefferson County, NY, settling in Joshua township on the old David Failing place, southwest of Fiatt. The farm was purchased from a man names Townsend and constituted the old Wheeler homestead for years. The frame building which was built later was home for Peter and Polly until their deaths. Peter and Polly were lifelong members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and deeded to the church the land for the Fiatt brick church. Peter Wheeler was at one time postmaster of the old Fiatt postoffice.

There were 9 children: William Henry, b. 19 Dec 1825, Betsy T., b. 24 Aug 1828; Zachariah, b. 12 Feb 1831; Martha Ann, b. 30 May 1833; Gideon M., b. 03 Aug 1835; Bloomer, b. 28 Oct 1837; James E., b. 05 Sep 1840; Julia Ann, b. 05 Oct 1842; and Peter A., b. 17 May 1845. All were born in Jefferson County, NY.

Peter and Polly's son Peter A. Wheeler enlisted for the CIVIL WAR. See the information about Peter in the Children section of this page.

Peter and Polly's daughter Julia Ann married John W. Ellsworth who also served in the CIVIL WAR. See the information about Julia and John in the Children section on this page.
