NOTE: Joseph Wheeler's father was George Wheeler. Family sources have George (b. 1784) as Zachariah Wheeler's brother, which would make Zachariah (b. 1776), William Henry Wheeler's grandfather, and Peter Wheeler (1750), William Henry's great grandfather. This is where the cousin relationship between William Henry Wheeler and Elizabeth Wheeler is found. This information was provided by a Wheeler family member who has done extensive research into available records. Refer to the link on this page to Peter Alphins Wheeler (1801-1876), then Zachariah Wheeler (1776-1827), then Peter Wheeler (1750-1820.) The line can't be traced further back than Peter Wheeler, b. 1750, and Hanna Lear, b. 1754, at this time. Peter Wheeler and Hannah Wheeler is the common ancestors for Elizabeth and William Henry.

Another line has been linked to Elizabeth stating that her great-grandfather was LAZARUS WHEELER (1759-1851), but this is incorrect. There isn't a Lazarus Wheeler in this line. As it stands now, Elizabeth's great-grandfather was also Peter Wheeler (1750).
