OBITUARY
Gideon M. Wheeler passed away at his home in this city at 3:15 pm, June 23, 1914. Mr. Wheeler enjoyed robust health until last winter when he began to fail and declined rapidly until the end.
The subject of this sketch was born Aug. 3, 1835, in Jefferson county N. Y. He moved with his parents to Fulton county, Ill., in 1850.
In 1856 Mr. Wheeler was married to Harriet O. Hendrix of Ohio. They lived in Fulton county until 1864 when they came to Faribault county, Minn., being among the earliest settlers of that county. The Wheeler homestead was near the village of Delavan.
Mr. Wheeler has been a resident of Fairmont since 1894.
Mr. & Mrs. Wheeler were the parents of five children of whom the following three survive:
Mrs. Mary J. Young Lake Crystal, Minn.; E. J. Wheeler, Moorhead, Minn.' S. W. Wheeler, Moorhead, Minn.
He also leaves a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A brother, Peter Wheeler, resides at Mr. Ayr, Iowa.
Mr. Wheeler was a just and upright man, one who lived up to the highest convictions and whose personal life was above reproach. He was a lifelong and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church and seldom was he absent from the services at his place of worship.
Two of the children, E. J. Wheeler and Mrs. Young, were present with their father in his last hour. The other son arrived for the funeral services.
Funeral Thursday at 1:15pm at the Methodist Episcopal church in this city (Fairmont). Burial at Rice Lake cemetery East of Winnebago (Faribault county).
