Discharge papers list him as 5 ft, 8 3/4 inches tall, fair complexion, blue eyes with brown hair and his occupation was the of a "Farmer" when enrolled in the army. Enlisted on 05 Dec, 1863 and discharged 04 May, 1866 at Baton Rouge, LA.
