Zachariah and PHOEBE SHERWIN were married before 1795. She was born 13 Mar 1777, town unknown at this time, d. 18 Mar 1856, town unknown at this time. To this union, 12 children were born:

JOHN S., b. Abt 1795; HANNA, b. Abt 1799; PETER ALPHINS, b. 20 Jul 1801, NY; IRA, b. 1805; ERASTUS, b. Abt 1805, Opprheim, NY; MENZO, b. 1810; MARVIN, b. 15 Jan 1813, Warren County, NY; FANNY, b. 1815; MILES, b. 1816; KIMMENTRAL, b. Abt 1820; WILLIAM H., b. 1826, NY; and, PHOEBE, b. Abt 1827, NY.

"Zachariah Wheeler, the son of Peter Wheeler, was married to Phoebe Sherwin, daughter of John Sherwin and Mary Gould. Zachariah and Phoebe were the parents of a large family that included the following children: John S., Hanna, Peter A., Ira, Erastus, Menzo, Marvin, Fannie, and Miles.

By 1810, Zachariah Wheeler had left Washington County, New York and had crossed over into the state of Vermont and was residing in Windsor County in the town of Reading where Phoebe's relatives lived. However, by 1820, Zachariah and Phoebe and their growing family were back in New York, and Zachariah was again living near his father Peter Wheeler as a resident of Warrensburg Township in the newly formed Warren County.

About the year 1822, and perhaps soon after the death of his father, Zachariah Wheeler moved to Jefferson County, located in Northwestern New York, along Lake Huron's eastern shore. There Zachariah died in 1827 at about the age of fifty-one years. His widow Phoebe was a resident of Lyme Township in Jefferson County, New York when she was enumerated in the 1830 census. By that time, some of Phoebe's children had married and were starting families of their own, and she had taken her husband's place as head of a household that included her younger or unmarried children. Besides Phoebe's household, the 1830 census records at Lyme Township have the households of John S. Wheeler, Peter Wheeler, and Ira Wheeler.

In 1850, Phoebe Wheeler was living with her son Menzo Wheeler at Lyme Township in Jefferson County. Phoebe died in 1856 and was buried in Jefferson County, next to Zachariah at Point Peninsula Cemetery at Three Mile Bay."
