Grandfather Alex Wood was a youthful Revolutionary War veteran
h/o Margaret Ann Prichard.
Birth: 1st of eleven known children in Frederick, now Clarke county, Virginia. (became Clarke county MAR 1836)
James moved with family to Jefferson county, Virginia, now West Virginia, then to Harrison. formerly Monongalia county in 1851, working as a carpenter in Tyler, Virginia, now West Virgina, until 1861 when he returned home following father's death, to support his mother by carpentry, stock dealing and teaching school.
Parents lived within 1/4-mile of Point Pleasant free school #7 & Methodist church with its cemetery, where he and sister Sarah taught. School burnt with frame built replacment for thirty students, used until about 1915. This school site was in use as early as 1830 or before, possibly one of pioneer Nicholas Carpenter's buildings of pre 1800, next to where the 1837 created Mount Morris Methodist church was relocated in 1855 becoming Maken/Point Pleasant Episcopal Methodist church and cemetery, both abandoned in 1964, where his parents with five of eleven siblings were buried.
"Jimmie" served the Union during Civil War, as opposed to younger brother "TK", serving the Confederates, James served as justice of the peace then moved to Wheeling, Ohio county for balance of is life.
Following the 1905 loss of wife, and while visiting his many children and grandchildren, he compiled a family genealogical file dated 22 August or May 1913 in use today.
Death: in first born daughter Maude's home in Clarksburg, buried in Greenwood Cemetery with wife at Wheeling, Ohio, formerly West Augusta county, West Virginia.
