Herman J. Flax, 74, WaKeeney, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney.

He was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Arnold to Godfried and Catherine (Weber) Flax.

He married Joan (Graf) Flax on Aug. 3, 1959. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; six sons, Kenny Flax, Gove, Terry Flax and Kevin Flax, both of Ransom, Brad Flax and Jeff Flax, both of Dodge City, and Brian Flax, Lindsborg; four brothers, Ignatius Flax, Hays, Leonard Flax, Wright, Lawrence Flax, Dodge City, and Father Myron Flax, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Helen Schuler, Ness City, and Sister Mary Ann Flax, Lexington, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, WaKeeney; burial at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Ransom. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Walk-A-thon for Health or Masses in care of the funeral home.
