George L. Bankert, of Seven Valleys, entered into eternal slumber November 4, 2009, in York.

He was born July 20, 1929, in Codorus Township, a son of the late Samuel S. and Elsie (Spidle) Bankert.

George worked in the maintenance department of the former Charles D. Summers, Inc., in New Freedom for 35 years. He also worked as a self-employed electrician.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.

George was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Freedom.

Mr. Bankert was the husband of the late Mildred L. (Jamison) Bankert and is survived by a daughter, Deb Burrs and husband, Don of Seven Valleys; sons, Steve Bankert and companion, Sue Yingling of Glen Rock, Ron Bankert and wife, Juliana of Mt. Jackson, VA, Sam Bankert and wife, Becky of Thomasville, and Michael Bankert and wife, Gloria of New Freedom; sisters, Goldie Renoll of Jefferson, Anna Mae Bankert of Glen Rock, Barbara Almony and husband, Horace of Glen Rock; and brother, Dale Bankert and wife, Mable of New Freedom; grandchildren, Donnie Burrs and wife, Sue, Travis Burrs, Jessica Bankert, Josh Bankert and wife, Tabitha, Amy, Sarah, Jordan, and Adam Bankert; and great-grandchildren, Abigail and Ava Burrs, and Gracie Bankert.

In addition to his late wife and parents, George was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Bankert; and two sisters, Florence and Mary Ehrhart.
