NEW FREEDOM Dale R. Bankert, 83, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Mable (Almony) Bankert. The couple would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on November 27, 2014. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, with full military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the mortuary with the Rev. Melissa McDade officiating. Interment is in West Liberty United Methodist Cemetery, White Hall, Md. Born February 14, 1931, in Glen Rock, Dale was the son of the late Samuel S. and Elsie Evelyn (Spidle) Bankert. Dale retired from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation after many years of service. He previously worked at the former Charles G. Summers, Jr., Inc. Canning Factory in New Freedom. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. Dale was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church, White Hall, Md. He was also a member of the following organizations: the Jim Beam Bottle Club, Ephrata American Legion Post 429, and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 596. In addition to his wife, Dale is survived by two sisters, Anna Mae Bankert and Barbara Almony, both of Glen Rock; and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Liberty United Methodist Church, 20400 W. Liberty Road, White Hall, MD 21161.
