A. Newton Peters, 81, of Rt. 3, Elida, was dead on arrival 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Hospital following an apparent heart attack.

Born April 7, 1889, in Franklin County, Va., Mr. Peters was son of William H. and Mary Ann Bowman Peters. He married Effie Miller Dec. 20, 1911, and she died Jan. 21, 1962. He married Harriet Morton Hunsaker Dec. 22, 1962, and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, William of Rt. 3, Elida, and Leland of Fairhaven, Vt.; four daughters, Mrs. Willie (Mary) Deaton of Lewisburg, Mrs. Harold (Martha) Ladd of Englewood, Mrs. Lawrence (Edith) Boyd of Rossville, Ind., and Mrs. Carl (Gladys) Angle of Rocky Mount, Va.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Everett (Thelma) Stemen of Elida and Mrs. William (Kathryn) Locker of Rt. 3, Elida; two brothers, Charles of Covington and Henry of Rt. 3, Elida; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Sink of Covington, Mrs. Lydia Layman and Mrs. Henry (Sally) Bowman, both of Wirtz, Va.; 28 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Peters was a retired Sugar Creek farmer and a minister of Ash Grove Old German Baptist Church since 1921. He became a deacon in 1909 and a minister in 1921. In 1936 he was appointed to the bishopric of the church.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Ash Grove Old German Baptist Church with burial in Ash Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 tonight in Chiles and Sons - Laman Chapel of Memories.
