Funeral services for Christ Hvinden, 82, of Maddock were conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 p. m. from the Viking Lutheran Church with the Rev. F. E. Olderr officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery beside the grave of his wife who passed away in 1951. Mr. Hvinden passed away on Saturday evening in the Maddock Hospital where he had been a patient since November 25th. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Jens Dyrud and Gilma Hovland who sang a duet and a solo was sung by Mrs. Oscar Gilbertson. Mrs. Millard (Josie) Kolsrud was organist. Active pallbearers were Gerald Hvinden, Curtis Hvinden, Gordon Arne, Alton Liudahl, Mayo Liudahl and Oliver Hvinden. Honorary pallbearers were Jens Dyrud, Joe Bratvold, Alfred Sogge, Selmer Arnston, Harold Lommen, Lawrence Bergsgaard, Francis Herbeck, Martin Ihlen, M. A. Wisness and Albert Sundet. Christian Hvinden, son of Hans and Agnetha Olson was born on 2 Jan 1875 in Gran Hadeland Norway. He was baptized and confirmed in the Vestre Gran Kirke. He immigrated to the United States in the summer of 1889 with his sister Marie. They came to Hickson and stayed with their cousin, Engebret Gilbertson until the fall of 1894 when he came to the Viking community where he worked for his brother-in-law Albert Liudahl. In 1899 he filed a homestead claim near Esmond, which he later sold. About 1904 he went to Canada and filed a homestead claim at Sedgewick, Alberta. He remained there for three years. On 23 Oct 1907 he was united in marriage to the former Christine Lovlien at the Albert Liudahl home in South Viking township. They left immediately for his homestead in Canada and lived there until the spring of 1908. In the fall of 1909 he bought their farm home in South Viking Township from Daniel Knauss and lived there until the spring of 1944 when he purchased a home in Maddock. Mrs. Hvinden preceded her husband in death suddenly on 9 Feb 1951 while visiting her daughter Mrs. Albert (Agnes) Arne at Big Bend, ND. Since that time Mr. Hvinden has resided summers with his son and daughter-in-law, Herman Hvinden and Cecelia Bergsgaard Hvinden and during the winter he stayed with his daughter and son-in-law, Albert Arne and Agnes Hvinden Arne in Maddock. Mr. Hvinden served on various boards and committees being a trustee of the Viking congregation for many years. Preceding Mr. Hvinden in death besides his wife and parents were his seven brothers and sisters of which he was the last to survive. Surviving him are four children Agnes Mrs. Albert Arne; sons, Herman Hvinden, Oscar Hvinden and Elmer Hvinden. Twenty-one grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
